A 19th Cabinet on stand veneered in laburnum oysters

A fine early 19th C. Cabinet on stand measures a wonderful 156cm high x 134cm wide veneered all over with laburnum oysters. Laburnum A wood that is yellowish with brown highlights that takes a high polish. Usually for veneered surfaces in 18th century English furniture. Known as Oystering when branches are cut so the veneer appears in circles. oystering A decorative form of veneering using slices of wood cut in vertical cross-section from the branches of small trees, such as laburnum and walnut, to create a pattern of repetitive whorls on furniture. The technique originated in Holland. It was popular in Britain for drawer fronts, and for cabinet and bureau doors from the late 17th to early 18thcenturies.
